One of my keys is dead. Is it possible to just change the battery or do i need to buy a new one?

the manual tells you how to change the battery and make the key work again, does this not work or something?

Try just replacing the battery, then sticking the key in the door and ignition to see if it works. If it hasnt been dead for a long time, you may not need to have it reprogrammed. This also depends on the year of the car too.
