PSA: Tramlining is one ugly and annoying bish. I don't like her. Any tips to minimize it?

I've read that last night. Would be nice to have some suggestions as to minimize it on our cars.

Default Tramlining is a lousy name for this effect. Maybe..

Grooving
quicksnake
sidewinding
railing

Default go back to 16" wheels and soft sidewall michelin's and it will be greatly reduced.

Almost all larger wheel packages with higher end performance tires will tramline. Stiffer suspension doesn't help the situation either.

My 245-40-18's Kumho MX's tramline like a 20yr old **** star gets busy.

Default What are the current alignment settings?

Depending on what the alignment in now set at, there are possibly a couple of settings that can reduce tramlining. One major factor is the
Toe setting, positive toe angles, or toe out, will provoke increased tramlining behavior.
tire tread stiffness is another significant variable.
One thing that will influence this problem, and in never discussed, is the "scrub radius" dimension in the front suspension, and the various effects from changes to the scrub radius that result from running with different wheel offsets. The scrub radius, can be positive, negative, or zero. and is defined as the distance between the tire tread centerline and the centerline/axis of rotation of the steering pivot where both lines cross the ground plane, or road surface. The scrub radius, depending on the lever arm length, and positive or negative, will impose a torque into the steering linkage, and have some effects on steering stability. Other aspects on the effect of the scrub radius as it varies with camber and toe settings are important also.
