Default Quick Question

i'm looking to buy a audi dont really know if i want a 1.8T or a 2.8 but its going to be 1995+ i dont think i have enough for anything higher than 1999 but.. i'm wondering if i get a 1.8T sounds more fun cuz of the turbo.. yet i hear the v6 2.8 is alot faster? i might want a stick.. but would the T have more mods? i'm not looking for really big mods like turbo kits but if there are little mods 1k or less which car has the most? and which will end up being the faster with the mods.. i dont really want a FAST CAR i want an audi but i do enjoy speed and i'm just wondering which will have more mods than the other and which will end up being the faster one.

1997 and before, 2.8 was 172hp- this moved to 190hp afterward. 1.8T was 150hp until 2000-2001, when it got upped to 170hp. Chipping will raise the hp on a 1.8T by maybe 20-30hp. Both engines have different driving characteristics as well. Hope that helps.

Default You might wish to pose this question on the B5 forum, since this is the forum for the newer model A4

Here's my advice:

Drive both and see which appeals to your driving style.

You get things on the 2.8, that you'll never get on the 1.8t - such as power driver's seat, real leather, wood trim, and a fat flexible power band. However, for $1K, you are only going to see a 15 to 18hp gain with chip and exhaust on the 2.8. Avoid the '96 and early '97 2.8, since they have a Hitachi ecu and are virtually impossible to mod inexpensively. They also only have 172hp ( two valve head ) vs the later 190hp ( 5 valve head ).

Consider the 1.8t. Get the stick since the Tip limits how much torque you can put through it. The 1.8t started coming here in '97. Pre-fly-by-wire-throttle cars offer the most mods. Of course get QTR if you plan to drive hard and bump power over 260hp. The Front Trak offers a fluid feel you won't get from QTR, but has lower limits and requires a different driving style.

Default Ask the B5 forum. They will have more details for you.
