Default I ran pretty hard at day 1. very similar to article. hit redline a few times....

thou my reasoning was to seat rings at top of stroke due to engine piston stretch ( right or wrong) I didn't beat the motor but I did run it through its full rpm range regularly. this how I have always done it. this motor only used 1/2 qt of oil before my first 10k service so I think it's broke in pretty well. this article seems to make sense.

Default Same here. I drove it hard sometimes and drove regularly the rest of the time...

making sure I went through the whole rpm range often. I only needed to add about 1/2 quart before 10K service. Changed oil at 15K and no loss of oil. Will be going to 20K service soon, checked oil a few days ago and I haven't lost any. I guess I broke it in pretty good!

Same here - 1/2 qt loss over first 10k, virtually none since (at 24k now)

Default Had my week-old B6 on the track at Nazerath, Audi quattro Challenge. You can imagine, I babied it.NOT

Whatever. I had 1/2 B6s there. I beat the **** out of it. Had to represent my peeps, well I wasn't the ONLY person with a B6. I scored well, even ahead of a "heavily modified" S4, lol. On 15" tires, I could pivot the car easily through the wet sections, ESP off, of course. I beat it that day, but had already accelerated the break-in, running through the gears with plenty of throttle without reving it. If you baby it, the rings do not seat before the cross-hatching is gone from the bore. Break it in hard, dammit.

Broke in my GTI in the same manner. mostly varied the RPMs a lot and hit the redline a few times in the first 1K. No problems through 77K miles except for a helathy does of oil through the first 5K miles.

Well, I guess I helped break in a demo on my test drive last Saturday...! Local Audi dealer had a great 20-minute test loop that had straightaways for 6th gear, some sweeping curves and a washboard gravel road! A couple of 4th to 2nd downshifts really revved it! Fun! Now I just need to decide between silver and dolphin gray(leaning toward the latter)... Oh, and sell my Jetta ;-)
