Start button?
<center><img src="http://img1.bimmerdiy.com:8007/diy/e36startbutton/installedclose.jpg"></center><p>Has anyone thought about, or executed, putting a start button in an A4, instead of the standard turn-key start? It seems like a very involved project for basically a purely aesthetic/wow factor gain, but it'd be cool to see someone do it and find out how difficult it is.
I was thinking one way to do it would be to buy the start button from a different vehicle manufacturer (BMW, aston, etc.) and use that so it's legit (unless one of the newer Audi models has one?). I would NOT want it to be an "autostart" sort of deal, where you push the button once and the car starts itself. Rather, you would turn the key to the "on" position, and hold the start button down until the engine turned over. Definite wow factor.

Why not get the start button from the RS 4, it fits in the console of the B6 just fine

Ya, some retailer was selling them here a while back....but you stil have to put your key in the
ignition??? It would work better if all you had to do is be within proximity of the igntion switch like some of the wireless ignition systems. I think the C6 A6 has this system.

I didn't realize any of the audis had start buttons, but that makes total sense. The only issue is the wiring, which I assumed would be difficult to the point of prohibitive, but after reading someone's DIY on their bimmer, it seems remarkably simple. Just a matter of adding a relay with the start button and some wire tapping... like maybe an hour or 2 job. I'd have to research the Bentley manual to get a feel for it though...
