What a timely thread!

My 17 year old wants a 2005 w/91k that he saved up for - but after reading through this thread it is probably unwise...

Bear in mind, most on this forum come here to research mechanical problems or are dedicated car guys... If the car was running brilliantly, with no problems, many would probably not have stumbled onto this thread. I love my little A4 Avant, but like most cars with 100, 000+ miles, it needs a little maintenance now and then.

Food for thought,
Jaimo

Default 152692

152,692 miles on 2002 1.8 with cvt. owned since new. This car runs better than my wife's "new" 2011 a4q. Just replaced the fuel pump this weekend. Last month did the timing belt service and a host of other repair or maintenance items as I plan to keep this car for a few more years. These cars just DO NOT RUST!

Default 2003 A4 Avant 1.8T

There was awhile when my wife and I didn't drive as much when our kids were little, so my car didn't log as many miles. Bought it new in December '02. I'm at 115K as of last Friday. Some annoying things over the last few years (thermostat, cat is starting to break up, minor oil leak, rack has a leak, Bose amp is fickle, new problem with some mystery sound on acceleration), but overall, I'd rather be dealing with those things than own/lease most other cars. It's still a great car, fun to drive, and the best I've ever owned. Although I wish that I hadn't sold my Montana green '92 GTI so soon. Damn grad school payments....
