Default Timing out or not?

I have a 03 a4 with the 1.8. The car threw a bad crankshaft position sensor. The car ran ok with the old one but after I installed the new one it ran as if the timing is off. Is the timing the real issue? Will doing the timing belt fix it?

The timing belt won't affect the crankshaft sensor. Do you still have a CPS fault code? If so, maybe the wiring between the sensor and the ECU is the problem; connector corrosion, etc.

You could try disconnecting the CPS and then trying to start, which may take five seconds or so of continuous cranking to start. If it then sounds OK, then something is wrong with that sensor circuit.

Default Cps

Could the cps have been put in wrong somehow? Should i try redoing it? If its not the cps itself what is it? Or could it be?
