Tuning questions - Chip and Air Filter
Hi folks - I'll start off with an apology if I'm asking redundant questions, since I'm new here. I'm the soon to be proud new owner of a black 1.8T quattro w/ Tip - can't wait! Great forum, by the way...
i) I may be opening up a huge can of worms here, but can anyone give me their objective assessment of what the best performance chip out there is? Also, any comments on chipping/tuning a Tiptronic driveline would be welcome (I've heard that there's only so much you should do, since the Tip transmission can only hold up to finite amount of HP before it suffers serious damage)
ii) regarding replacement air filters (specifically K&N), I've also heard that refitting an oiled filter can ruin the mass air intake, resulting in costly damage. Furthermore, it's been suggested to me that, since the air intake is induction-based and not forced, a filter change won't make a performance difference anyway. Apparently there is an Audi technical bulletin addressing these considerations out there some where. Keep in mind that I am not a tech in anyway, so educated comments are very welcome!
Many thanks in advance to you all!

Not sure if any advantage to airbox mods on B6...
Depends on what stage of modifications you have planned, but on my 99 A4 1.8T, I chipped w/ APR and they included K&N drop in filter. They did Dyno tests with cone style air filters and saw no improvement in flow-(airbox seems designed with plenty of flow capacity for chip only type mods.) I had no mass air sensor problems in 50k miles w/ chip and filter, plus its nice just routinely cleaning filter and not buying new. No personal experience yet on my 2003 1.8T.
