Unknown Electrical Problem
I am hoping someone hear can give me some information to take back to the dealership.
Soon after I got my car (2004 A4 1.8T) I noticed that my headlights would turn themselves on and off periodically but since they did not stay on long enough for the autoleveling to do its thing, the warning light would come on. It would do this every couple of weeks - not that big of a deal.
However about a month ago I went to use my horn and noticed that it didn't work. Soon after my headlights started turning on and off with a much greater frequency (about every 15 minutes). With the autoleveling warning buzzing has become very aggrevating. About this time the display for the compass went out in my rearview mirror and with less frequency, my air conditioner would turn itself on and off and the volume on the radio would fluctuate. Something is definitely wrong.
I took it to the dealership and they ordered a new horn and a new rearview mirror but said they didn't know what was wrong with everything else and just left it at that. I am getting ready to take it back to the dealership so they can install the new parts but I would really like to fix the problem instead of replacing things as they go out especially since my warranty will be expiring soon.
Any ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for being so long.

Going out of warranty already on a 2004? Putting some miles on it? <m>
The repairs sound correct for the horn and mirror. There is a possibility the mirror may correct the headlamps also. Do you notice this happens when you have it in Auto mode? Not sure about the A/C, could be low on refrigerant. Volume going up and down sounds like a Audio Pilot problem and there is a fix for that as well. Have your dealership check there service bulletins.

I kinda have the same ones
also on an 04, but not as severe. The light issue seems to be happening on most 04s. My dealer is aware of it, but they have no fix for it. My radio volume also decides to fluctuate sometimes, but only once a month maybe. No issues with the mirror or the A/C though.

Unfortunately, yes I am putting a lot of miles on it.
I'm up to 31k and it is not even a year old yet.
Thank you for your advice. Yes, the headlights only flash on when it is in Auto mode. I didn't realize this was an issue for other A4's. The dealership hasn't been very forthcoming with information.
I'm hoping that when they replace the horn and mirror, the issues will be worked out. I only worry that it will be a temporary fix and I will have to deal with these same issues again.

Well with the headlamps, it may be a temporary fix...but...
There is a mirror coming out soon with updated software. Not sure on time frame for release. But at least you should have some documentation that you have had a problem with them.

FYI - My compass starting working again last night
Noticed it on my way home. Two days ago I turned my lights from Auto to off and now things are working much better. My radio hasn't been bouncing and my air conditioner hasn't turned itself off . . . yet. It has only been a couple of days.
I had a feeling it had something to do with my headlights but I still can't explain exactly what is going on.
