The factory settings are useless as the spray hits the wipers before the glass. Has anyone adjusted these? Are they just spherical jets that can be moved with a pin or fine wire?
A few years later... I just tried this and can't get to them with a needle as I did on previous cars. Anyone know the magic trick to adjust the nozzles?
I agree in that the nozzles on my A4 are a little tighter than ones I've adjusted on other cars. I've tried using a pin but it was difficult to really fine tune the angle I want. Is there a special tool that the dealerships use?
I just did this before the weekend trip up to the mountains using a safety pin. It's thicker than a needle and worked for me. It takes patience to get them in the right spot, but it is doable.
I just went through this w/my A4. Using the info from ElsaWin, I marked the positions on the glass and used the factory tool but even with the factory tool it's still very difficult and time consuming.
I would spend about a hour doing it, get frustrated and close up the garage only to come back out and try it again. Rinse and repeat.
What to remember is that a little movement, I mean a c*nt hair goes a long way.
I would recommend doing it with just plain water as you likely to drain your reservoir of fluid (in my case several times) before you even get the hang of it, much less get things dialed in.
I spoke with the Service Manager at the Local Audi Dealership on this and he admitted it's a PITA. They modified the factory tool to use two needles taped together (I thought of that as it seemed much easier but you would need to have the tool to see what I mean).
He also said they had one Tech spend a great deal of time on developing a technique to getting this procedure down pat. He then showed the rest how to do it.
So in the end I have to say there is no magic to it. You just have to get a feel for doing it which is developed through trial and error.
If you can search around and find acetylene torch nozzle cleaner. I worked in a steel fabrication department and saw that the different diameter nozzle cleaners helped alot. These sets have different sizes of tip cleaners and they are strong enough to make the adjustment on your wiper fluid jet nozzles.
