Default Navigation system - worth $3000?

Navigation system - worth $3000?

Just as the thread title implies, I am curious what you all think of the Navigation option. Seems pricey since I already have Nav for free on my iPhone.

It seems that you are forced to take Navigation if you want the stereo upgrade. I have never seen a model equipped just with B&O. B&O usually comes with Nav as well.

I had a 2010 A4 without Nav and B&O and a 2013 with Nav and B&O. I found using Nav on an iPhone while driving is not really a good idea. Trying to adjust destinations on the iPhone almost got me in a serious accident. I also had the Garmin, better than the iPhone but still small screen and fumbling to change stuff is not a good idea either. What you get with the Audi Nav system, is voice activated navigation. Click the voice button and say I am hungry and it will show you a listing of nearby restaurants. etc etc etc. If you spend any significant amount of time on the road get the Nav is my recommendation.

B&O there is nothing like it, not even Bose. No distortion irregardless of the volume level you set it too. I enjoy it a lot.

Hope this helps.

3000 is an extortion and I wouldn't get it just for Nav. However, it also affects the car in many was the car electronics behave and interior look as well; basically instead of a computer you get a radio. My car has ADS and I wouldn't be able to use individual mode without Nav, for example.

In short if you want it just the Nav, get an aftermarket system. If other features are a consideration than it may be worth it.

BTW, I have been using smartphone on my other car - it absolutely sucks. The biggest issue is when you lose your data connection in the middle of nowhere then your navigation might go with it - and that's when you actually need it.

Its expensive, but its a "package deal". You get more then navigation. You get a much better radio headunit. It support A2DP bluetooth streaming and HD Radio among other things. You also get a Wi-Fi hotspot in the car. It also includes a rear view camera and the sonar rear parking sensors.
