I vacuum the hood about every 2 weeks which keeps the hood from becoming ingrained with dust and grit. It also prevents the grit on the hood wearing away the fabric when folding.I have had 2 Z3s in the past and my hoods always looked like new compared to other cars I saw.

I totally agree with Mark on the hoovering.

Ever since he first mentioned it I have been doing the same and it works a treat :-)

Default Hmmmm....

Hoovering sounds like a very good idea, but just can't bring myself to do it! :-D

I spray mine thoroughly with the hose, then wash it with Autoglym car wash shampoo stuff then hose it off well. Seems to do the trick so far...

Ari,
Won't the repeated use of shampoo on the hood begin to effect it's waterproof qualities?

I've always thought if I started hoovering the hood then my neighbours would think I'm even madder than they already think ! Cleaning the car at 8am on a January morning convinced them, especially as I had to 'skate' around the car after 5 mins when all the water started to freeze.....

I'll get the hoover out this weekend and give it a go, assuming it stop's raining

Default Hood waterproofing.

Good question Mark, but I read somewhere that this is the thingf to do. I think it was in the owners manual, I'll take another look sometime, it's a fair point. I do remember reading that you should wash from front to back as that is the direction of "grain" of the hood.

Have to say though that so far it certainly hasn't affected it. It is actually quite hard to wash as the hood just doesn't seem to get wet, at least initially. YOu have to get a lot of water in the sponge and squeeze it out as you go otherwise the sponge merely skates over the hood leaving it dry behind! Very odd indeed. Same goes for hosing it, the water just beads and rolls off, impressive to watch.

Default You're all very lucky .....

... I'm not allowed to clean my car at home (estate regulations) so I've never had the pleasure .. It gets cleaned every two weeks at a nearby NCP .. or when it goes in to the dealer (which is quite often!!)

Default Cleaning at home

How odd, that'd drive me nuts!

What is the reason for them not allowing you to clean your car?
