Fan 1 Control Circuit
Dealer quoting me $2400 to replace fan 4H0-959-455-AD due to P0691 Short to Ground (fan controller fried).
The fan is an outrageous $1,200 even at ECS. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...y/4h0959455ad/ Is that the only real long-term solution? I am told by my usual indept shop that there's no hurry to replace the fan as it is a redundant one but should be done for the summer.
Can I replace the fan myself? Is the fan removed by dropping it down under the car (while it is lifted on jacks)?

Well, if you have the 2.0L, then procedure is to remove bumper, drain coolant, disconnect hoses attached to upper part of radiator, then disconnect upper radiator clips and pull radiator forward at top, gives room to remove fan cowling up.

If it's a 3.0T it requires removing the bumper and jockeying the radiators around. It should take around 3.5 hours to complete. Before buying anything I'd double check the stealers diagnosis. There is a fuse located under the front upper strut brace. Here's some pictures of the fuse location taken by a user on the Ross-Tech Forum.
