2004 2.7T A6 "Whoosh" Sound After APR
#11
It happened to me after I did my APR BiPipe
Didn't tighten the clamps to the intercoolers tight enough and one blew off under full throttle while shifting between 4-5. Sounded like a friggin bomb went off under the hood <yeeeoooow) !
Didn't cause any problems after reattach <whew>

It's starting to "whoosh" again...
I hate to re-start this thread, but here goes...
I started to get the "whooshing" sound again earlier in t he week. I took the engine cover off to find the TBB a bit off again. I loosened, adjusted and retightened once again but this time with no luck.
It is not nearly as noticeable as the first instance, but I start to loose power once the car gets into the 3-4,000 RPM range again.
I'm going to take it completely off and try to re-fit it again tonight or tomorrow. Has anyone else had this issue with the TBB? I hate to even ask, but would a bi-pipe completely take this issue out of the equation? Having these issues is really taking the fun out of the APR tune that I got and I definately want the reliability and gas milage the car can get. Thanks in advance as always, you all are more than helpful.

I recall the stock TBB to be a bit of a weak point in these cars, even when stock.
Your mileage may vary, but I've been running the APR programming with the bipipe for almost 75,000 miles and have never had any air leak issues besides the one with the self-caused intercooler hose popping off.

When you replaced the TBB, did you use the original (old) clamps?
The original clamps have been known to cause/contribute to tears in the TBB, even the silicone ones.
Also, did any oil or grease get in between the TBB and throttle body itself? If so, the TBB could be slipping under pressure.

meh, i use zipties on the vaccum nipples on my DVs but yeah the onld clamps are bleh, get a good clamp you can bolt the mo fo down with . asl if you can take the throttlebody off, take it to a welder and have him weld four small lips on . (top bottom left right)

Got it
Worked like a charm. I was finally able to dodge rain drops and snow (seriously) today for 10 minutes to replace the clamp. I could see how the new clamp's OD was able to be tightened further than the OEM one. Took it for a spirited test drive and all seems well. I'll check it in a few days and if its good for at least a week, I'll consider myself home free. The smaller clamp didn't fit so the zip tie it is! Thanks again al.
