99 A6 Quattro - Steering Vibration at low speeds
Great cars...except with a steering problem which keeps bugging me.
I took in my A6 several times, Audi can't seem to diagnose the problem. It seems to be an intermittent vibration in the suspension which only occurs when turning at low speeds. It happens about once every 6 times; especially on hot days when pulling out of a parking spaces. Audi tells me that they can't duplicate the problem to the point where they can fix it. They checked everything and keep telling me that everything is fine. Its also hard to duplicate the problem on demand in front of the Audi machanic. Any ideas?
I replaced my wheels and tires and upgraded them to 17x8 and went with 245/40-17s; and the problem still exists. The car looks even better with the new rims and wider tires. Just want to resolve this steering issue now.

Re: Probably normal - its a function of quattro.
I've driven a newer Audi A6; and the problem doesn't exist. So there must be something up with my 99A6; besides it doesn't happen all the time.
Do you have this problem with your 2.7T?
Thanks again for your help.

What they all said. It's just EDL...
...intervening when it thinks a wheel is slipping. The newer cars have newer versions of the EDL software. Each succesive version should require more "slipping" to activate EDL. If you get a car with ESP you create another phase shift of the software.
If you put wider tires on it will become even more noticable. It all depends on how sharp you turn. If on some sharp turns it does it and others it doesn't; have your suspension/alignment looked at. Normal!
