A6 3.0 Oil Level Indicator and Capacity
I just recently purchased a 2002 A6 Avant 3.0 and serviced for the first time. I used 0w30 Mobil 1 and a Mann oil filter, I had a hard time reading the oil level dipstick I filled the crankcase with just over 6.5 quarts as per the service manual am I safe with that amount? I cant read the dipstick it appears to be to low but it's hard to read the oil is too clear I'm used to the dipstick on my old 4.2 A8 it was easier to read. Just looking for a bit of advise is all Thanks.

i dont know what to say, except:
1. the manual is always right
2. the car must be level, and you must let it drain.
Beyond that, i have never even laid eyes on a 3.0. 2.7t, 2.8 12v, 4.2, 18,8t yes. 3.0 no.

LOL. I'd call troll but what the hey. One way to solve the poor readability with that new oil is put an oz of UV leak detector dye into the crankcase. Use a UV LED pen to read it. You might have to clean the dipstick with a rag/mineral spirits or gasoline to get the dye off before you put it back in the engine to get a reading.
I would never answer someone's question re after putting 6.5qts in whether they were safe with that amount.
Depends on so many things, including whether you really put it in the engine rather than the windshield washer reservoir, whether you left the drain plug out or loose, etc. So, it depends...you really do have to read the dipstick.
