Advice on Purchase of 1999 Avant
All,
I'm looking over a '99 Avant Wagon and I request your expert help as to what I should be on the lookout for.
Details of the car are
55,000 Miles,
Engine shows signs of mouse frass,
Leather and interior in good condition but in need of a serious cleaning,
Windshield broken, (easy to fix),
Rear view mirror hanging by a wire,
Latch broken on the compartment on the hatch door, (holds the caution sign),
Newer tiers, full size spare warn and different type than the 4 on the car,
Exterior good condition.
Asking price 19,750 in Southern Connecticut
I plan to have my an Audi mechanic look it over and to run the VIN through Carfax
Thanks to all in advance

Overpriced...
Last month I bought an immaculate, loaded 99 Avant w/ 54k, no issues for $17k. Good deals on clean Avants are hard to find, but are definately out there. If this car is your only option I'd offer $15k and let the seller think about it for awhile.

Re: Advice on Purchase of 1999 Avant
Seems like a ripoff to me. With that kind of condition, I wouldn't want to pay anything even CLOSE to $20k.
Keep in mind that at 55k, things that are likely to need attention VERY soon are:
water pump/t-belt consisting of (water pump, timing belt, t-belt tensioner, t-belt roller, thermostat) for around $1000.
brakes including rotors for around $500 - $750

over priced...
Six months ago I picked up a 1999 Avant just off lease in excellent condition (inside and out) with 52K, a new timing belt and water pump, plus the 60K service too... and an extended warranty... $19.5K, and maybe that was a bit high in this current used car market...
A sweet car!
