I'd do the same thing, especially if I bought one (good luck on the search, BTW.)
Keep your eyes on eBay.
I only skimmed through your posts below, so don't know if you've actually found one or are just starting the search. But MeLoN BaLLaR is selling his with about 72k on it. You might check with him, and you're both in SoCal. In fact, I think he's getting a new tranny put in right now.
His CPO is running out, as would any other '01's warranty. And you know that finding someone to write a new policy on a 6 year old car would be difficult to source at best (esp. with the turbos), and $$$$ even if you could trick (er, convince) them to do it.
