Default could someone with a 2.7T look under their hood for me?

See the heat shield in this diagram? I found one of these loose under my hood after my dealer repaired my wiring harness due to rat damage. I think it is supposed to be around something, instead it was just sitting there.

I found it in the driver's side front part of my engine compartment. Could someone with a 2.7T take a look down there (near the power steering fluid reservoir and ABS system) and see if they see one of these around some wiring or a pipe?

I want to replace mine before something bad happens.

(Note, the one in the picture is only an example, and is not the correct one).

Default Yes, I do have one in the area you mentioned. It extends

across in similar fashion to the "example" and is covering whatever is running horizontally and adjacent to the firewall. I will try and get a pic if I can remember where my dig camera is.
00 2.7T

Default Re: could someone with a 2.7T look under their hood for me?

I couldn't find any shield for the cables to the left of the power steering fluid reservoir. The only one I can see is the one you show in your picture, about 8-9 inches below the centermost screw holding the washer fluid reservoir, flush against the firewall, running horizontally side to side.

Come to think of it, my power steering reservoir was replaced some time ago. Maybe they just forgot a shield too... (Actually, I don't think the area just left of the power steering fluid reservoir is particularily hot).

Default that thing next to the firewall isn't the power steering reservoir

It's the windshield fluid reservoir. The power steering reservoir is near your right hip if you are leaning over the front of the car into the engine bay. Says "mineral oil" only on it. Take a look around there.

I still have that one near the back installed (in the pic), although it is much more hidden in my car. I don't know if that is because the pic is from and S4 or because the pic is from a 6-speed.

Default Sorry, I should have been more specific

I was referring to the space under the "pink" coolant res. and just to the left. I will look again and try to be more part specific.
00 2.7T

Default I looked again and looking at the engine bay standing directly

in front of the vehicle. To access the area you would need to remove the right side (your right) perforated cosmetic cover. It appears to be an electrical bundle and is immediately below and adjacent to another hose/conduit (it's dark outside). It is below and to the left of the coolant overflow res. and in front and below left of the brake fluid res.. The shield is about 5 1/2 inches long and again it runs left to right beginning about the same point where the base of the "Y" (upside down) begins to curve left.

This particular conduit/bundle is between the rear of the block and the firewall. Hell, I might be missing one somewhere else so this might be a waste of time.
00 2.7T

Default that sounds right

I'll go look to see if I have a shield there.

Default I think you solved it

But in an unexpected way. You accidentally gave a very good description of where the shield in the picture above (that I said wasn't it) is located on an A6 2.7T. I said this wasn't it because I have that shield still in place.

Well, while following your excellent description, I removed the right-hand (driver's side) plastic cover over the engine. What do I find underneath, but chewed insulation from my wiring harness. I also saw where it was spliced (very well) under there. So now I am convinced that the one I found was the old one that was there, and that when they worked on my harness, they lost track of the shield, and so installed a new one in the place you described. I had discounted this theory before, since I thought all the work was done up by the power steering reservoir.

So, to make a long story short, I think this part is indeed extra, and not missing from some place on my car. And than you 2.7TGeezer for helping me find this out.
