I have a phat box in my a6...and I messed up the cartridge is there a way to reformat it and return

Yes, you can reformat it using the Music Manager software.
Instructions should be in the manual. Pretty much like a normal Windows harddrive, up to 40GB. If it's a bigger one, there is another utility you should use. Do not try to repartition it, though.

Don't mean to hijack, my question is related.
What is the largest size drive available. I would like more than 20GB.
Have any of you tried or used an Ipod adapter before going to the phatbox?
thanks

And you can't just swap in a bigger notebook drive. There's an encrypted key on the disk...
that the phatbox looks for. No key, no work. Pretty annoying since you can buy a nice 100gig drive for less than $200 these days.

I think I understand your reply...so if I get a larger drive...
I won't be able to remove the 20GB drive that came with the box and insert the larger drive and have it work???
If so, that sux and I will explore other ideas. I have approx 40GB of music files.
thanks

you can't crack open the cartridge and replace the 2.5" drive with a larger drive. You CAN...
buy another cartridge with a bigger hard drive already in it. Rumour has it that the drive signature thing has been recently cracked which would allow you to pop in any old 2.5" drive to replace the 20gig unit now inside your cart. I shold know more in a few days.
