I'm not so sure this is limited to my RS6 so I'd rather post over here since there's more activity.

I'll try and answer a batch of questions in one shot here.
Could be the power steering pump. I thought of that but don't know at this point. Don't think it's the quattro system at work or else I would think many more cars would exhibit this problem. Yes, when pulling into a driveway I of course have to accelerate ever so slightly but again it seems like it's the action of turning the steering wheel and not the acceleration itself.

My wife's A6 does exactly that same thing.
It started last winter after she had a slight collision (she was driving really slow and car slid sideways off an icy road into the ditch). I've monitored the PS fluid, but no leaks.
It's only noticable at very slow speeds (i.e. parking lots and driveways). I haven't taken the car to a shop because it's had zero impact on driving.
I need to take the car in for the two recalls and get the insturment cluster replaced, I'm going to have them address that at the same time (thank you extended warranty). That will be in a few weeks.
Unfortunately I don't have any advice, just wanted to let you know you aren't the only one. FYI - hers is a 99 2.8q.
Let me know if you hear anything, I'll do the same.
