Default Minor brake upgrade

I need to replace the stock 288mm front brake rotors here shortly as well the calipers. Can I replace them with the 312mm rotors (that the parts store has occasionally tried to sell me) and the calipers to match? I assume the larger parts are for a 2.7T(?). I's sticking with 16" wheels.

I guess it depends on what year and engine your car is/has.

Why do the calipers need to be replaced? Failure is very rare.

same question here. Its nice to clean, lube and rebuild the calipers if you like to fuss. Otherwise, get the right rotors and proceed. Grant

Appreciate the replies. My Audi is a '99 2.8Q with 264K miles. You're right in that I haven't needed to rebuild the calipers in 264K miles (have only replaced fluid), but I know I will have to replace/rebuild eventually. I asked the question as I do need to replace the rotors again soon, I have a set of SS flex lines that I want to install and I'd like to use the larger 312mm rotors. They might demand different calipers or, at the least, different caliper brackets to keep things lined up. I'm not hard on brakes, but I'd like to install a larger (stock) rotor for the increased mechanical advantage.

Totally not worth it. The stock brakes are more than adequate. Stay away from the braided lines too - especially in a rust belt state. Good idea to change the flexible lines to the front calipers though.

x2. You just redefined "marginal improvement" and SS lines are a mixed bag. ( i used to dislike them, now I've learned there are good DOT lines, but to what advantage?"

You realize you can lock up all 4 tires easily with the brakes you have ( assuming you turn abs off) right?

Want better bakes? Maintain them better. It will have vastly more effect.
