The more I listen to my Bose Symphony sound system, the more I hate it.

i had my head unit re-coded with a VAG-COM.....
and i have to say i LOVE it. no stock system ive heard comes close!!!! it takes some adjustments to get it to sound good to your preferences (i.e. the "hidden EQ" and the standard EQ *****) but once you find the sweet spot you like, its great. bass response is SIGNIFICANTLY better with the BOSE settings turned off (the VAG-COM recode is what does this) and there is no distortion at high volumes. only thing i dont like is that all the added BASS has started to cause the rear deck lid and door panels to rattle under certian bass tones. im going to have to pack some insulation or dynamat around in there but id NEVER consider swapping speakers or headunits on this vehicle (2001 A6) if you have access to a VAG-COM, turn off the bose settings, its like getting a WHOLE new system installed!!!!

The trouble is that relative to the very ordinary system in my old Nissan...
the Audi-Bose system sounds very poor. That's why I really think there's a problem.

That seems to contradict ZCD2.7T 's experience reported above.
He suggested making sure the Bose settings are turned on; you're suggesting that I turn them off if they are on. Well, I guess this gives me something to experiment with either way! Thanks.

Turn off Bose mode and test your head unit on a home stereo. If sounds good, buy amps/spkrs.
If it sounds bad, you may have a head bad unit. Or, perhaps your speakers or woofer are damaged?
Not that the Bose sounds more than "adequate" at its best.

I know. the darn latch system is not designed to...
properly secure a seat in the middle. Using the seat belt is a pain and comes loose over time. Using the inner anchors is not good with the other seatbelts and is not approved. My son sits on the side. I don't have the rear side airbags. Besides, now I can put my hockey sticks in the pass through sack.

Agreed, for kicks I turned off bose mode...
and the bass was absolutely terrible. It was so overpowering that I couldnt turn it down far enough in the EQ + the **** adjustments enough to even listen to it. I immediately turned it back to Bose mode and got my mids and highs back
