Oil Change Frequency

Oil Change Frequency
I just took delivery of my new 2000 A6 2.7T Tip. What a beautiful machine! However, I was surprised to learn from the dealer that the free maintenance covers oil changes only every 8000 miles.
Is this the norm? I believe 3000 - 4000 mile intervals are more appropriate - especially when it comes to the first oil change.
Any thoughts?

A lot on this already.
Congratulations on your beautiful new car. Folks who no know a lot more about Audis than I do have said to stick with the manufacturer recommended intervals, including some of the very knowlegable Audi salespeople who post here. They have said it is especially important for the first change. Not to blow you off, but I think you will find a lot of information on this if you haven't already tried the search function. You might also want to take a look at the FAQ for oil changes under engines. Good luck and enjoy that car.<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/faq/index.html">https://www.audiworld.com/faq/index.html</a</li></ul>

Re: Oil Change Frequency
I thought the same thing but it is every 8000 miles. It is very important that you don't change it until needed because this time is needed to get all the parts to seat. Hope this helps.

Re: A lot on this already.
In Europe with the long service interval scheme oil change intervals are up to 19,000 miles depending on driving conditions and use of special oils. The indicator on my car started at a service interval of 9,300 but after 3000 miles of mixed driving it has gone out to the full 19,000 interval.
Everyone on this forum seems very keen for shorter changes. I am comfortable with Audi's recommendations.<p>Tom Marshall
