Swapping ECUs in 2001 Audi
Here is a post from the VAG-COM news group. For those of you who don't know, VAG-COM is a software and interface package for $200 that allows you to access the various computers in your car so that you can trouble-shoot problems whit the car. In some cases you can make changes to factory default setting, like the remote control of the windows. Also you can reset error codes and oil change lights, etc.

Some of you may have read in an earlier post of mine that you cannot swap ECUs (engine computer) in 2001 Audi's.
It seems that Audi has some secret code that is required in order to get an ECU to work when it is installed into a car. The guys at APR say that you need to enter this code every time you change the ECU, not just the first time you install it. Some owners with "CHIPs" were buying it with a spare ECU so that they could put the stock one in if there was a problem. On a 2001 Audi you can no longer do this without going to the dealer each time to have them put in the code for the ECU.
