Torque Converter...to replace or not too replace, that is the question!!!

I speak from experience. I currently have the same code but unfortunately...
mine is not going to go away. I have owned the car for 2 yrs and it now has 100k. I have done countless hours of research over this and even lost sleep .
In your scenerio I would cancel you appt but get a raincheck on the 25% discount. If you can get it done for 1500.00 that is a pretty good deal. Although keep in mind you are paying 1500 to put the same part in there that has failed before. I know they may have upgraded the seals but in all honesty I dont feel for a job this size putting in a factory replacement is that good of an idea.
Another reason I would cancel for now is that if no codes are being thrown I would say that you are currently (most likely) not harming anything. For all you know the clutchs could not have enguaged once and it thew the code. I would however keep a VERY close eye on it. I would even romp on it a little here and there to see if I could get it to throw the code. Not too much but just enought to make the parts work a little harder. If is indeed not working properly it will throw the code and I would get it change prior to any long term damage to the tranny.
There are 5 places you can get a TC around the US. I say 5 becasue these are rebuilt and upgraded TC's or they rebuild yours. Out of the 5 my personal choice would be 517 transmission out of NJ and I would not settle for anything less. From my research they are the best hands down. If you want to know more than email me.
At this point you will have an upgraded Tc that can handle HP up to 400 for sure and possily low 500's. If you do not plan on getting chipped or upgrading turbos this may be a little overkill but for the price you cant go wrong. The TC from them is about 500-700 and then you are looking at about 12hrs install. Thats about 1200 just in install and that is why I would go with an upgrade so you only have to do it once.

We use Dynamic torque converters.
They are the best. My friend owns a transmission shop and he would not use anything else. Out of 6000 TC 4 had to be replaced under warranty. I would not replace it until you have drive-ability issues. Our price is $1000 including the TC and labor.<ul><li><a href="http://dynamicconverters.com/converters.htm">http://dynamicconverters.com/converters.htm</a</li></ul>

They come to the shop to pick it up and drop it off next day rebuilt.
Dynamic is the biggest TC manufacture. They make all the domestic TC. I've rebuilt a bunch of A8-S8 A6 4.2 (5HP24A) tranny and I always install a TC rebuilt by Dynamic.
