Default Tramlining...

I have a 02 A6 (Sport Package 235/45/17 Conti Sport Contact tires) with about 20K miles. They are great performance tires, but are horrible in the snow and on those bad, worn-out roads. Does anyone else have this problem? I am thinking about a set of Dunlops next. maybe an all-season hp tire.

Thanks,

B.

Default Summer performance tires are good if

you live in warm climate area with good roads but if you live in the area like me (rain, snow and etc...), all season tires are more convenient. Cost less too. With my family on board, I don't really do sharp turns and aggressive high speed driving anymore. You can't go wrong with Dunlop or Bridgestone or Miche.

Default I would suggest you upgrade you summer tires/wheels, and keep the stock 17's for snow tires

next winter

That's a good suggestion too.

what are you running on your audi? i am in the philly area and have gotten by with the ultra hp summers until now (taking public trans to work), but they are not so good in the white stuff. just another 2 months and i will be in the clear. I had the Dunlop SP Sports on my last Audi, but they were 16s.

They are Ultra HP summer tires. Horrible in the snow, ice and cold temps.

Default My car came with 17" Pirelli P6s and I live in

Indiana (we get our share of snow every year). P6s aren't winter snow tires but if you drive gently with Quattro, it should give you enough traction in snow.

Default Best bet is to have 2 sets of rims & tires; you can get a 16" set of winters for 1K USD

I run Falkens in the summer and Arctic Alpins in the winter.

Second best is to get a good hp a/s tire and run it year-round, such a Falken Ziex or Mich Pilot a/s. Search the board and check out tirerack for ratings & reviews:

tirerack
