a6 brake problem

a6 brake problem
i have a 2000 a6 which i replaced rear pads. is there a process to have the caliper piston to expand after i had to screw it in for pad replacement? brakes seem spongy and i have to pump them. I guess i could bleed them as a last resort. any help appreciated.
