Default adding RVC to a Dension 500 06 A6

Hi folks,

So I'm looking to add a rear view camera to my MMI, but the 06 model didn't come with FBAS. So the retrofit isn't as straightforward. Was wondering what others would recommend for the easiest to accomplish the goal, considering I have a Dension 500BT unit, but it's didn't come with video input, simply audio.

FWIW, I've been reading through @ltooz_a6_a8_q7 write-up here: A8 D3 Back Up Camera Retrofit ? Audi and figured it should work the same way, but wanted to capture more ideas from the folks here.

You do not need to do anything with the Dension. There is a unit that sits between the display and the current display source and works like an A/B switch. The display functions as normal, but when triggered by the reverse lights it uses the camera as the video source..

I have everything to do this but the place to do it and the time.

Take a look at the below thread:

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...table-2958284/

I have an extra camera unit as the one that I got does not fit an avant but should fir a sedan.

Hi @jeffpuxx , interesting about the Audi MMI 2G HIGH rearview camera module adapter harness for Audi A4 A5 A6 A8 device. In teh articale it mentions the AMI, but I don't have AMI hence why I have Dension. Ideally I wish the Dension had a video input and I'd be set I'm just try to figure out what exactly the adapter does. BTW, hit me up if you're looking to sell your parts.

Hi @jeffpuxx did you make any progress on this?

So are the only parts needed:
  • Audi A3 A6L A8L Car Trunk Handle Backup Camera CCDSony Parking Assisitance
  • Audi MMI 2G HIGH rearview camera module adapter harness for Audi A4 A5 A6 A8
  • PAC CSS12 Passive Noise Filters

I'm gonna get to this over the next couple of weeks.

I had some time this morning and a place to do it.

This image is with the car trunk handle backup camera and the camera module -- I did not use the PAC CSS12 Passive Noise Filters - but it is possible that I may need them in the future..

I removed the glove-box and installed the camera module by mounting it to the bottom of the MMI module using 3M Plastic Velcro. I connected the power for the module to a switched 12V source from the fuse panel to the right of the glove box.

I did not have the wiring accessories that I will need to tap in to the reverse circuit so for the image that you see I just powered the rear camera from the 12V accessory jack on the right hand side in the rear cargo area.(I have an Avant not sure if sedan has this)

I am pleased with the image and do not believe that I will need to use the PAC CSS12 Passive Noise Filters, but I will see what happens once I tap the reverse light for 12V power.

I did need to use 1 PAC CSS12 Passive Noise Filter.

This weekend I will be taking care of the wiring from the rear tailgate to the glovebox.

I do have the option to turn grid lines off by snipping a wire on the camera, but I kind of like the clean look without them and they will be static lines and not dynamic.

Other items can be connected via the composite video as show below.

First picture is a raspberry pi running retrpie

2nd picture is my phone being mirrored to the car screen using a miracast adapter and an hdmi to composite adapter. Actually worked very well for Waze.

Other things can be hooked up to the display as long as they have a composite video output. This is from a Raspberry Pi Running RetroPie

I also hookud up a miracast adapter and was able to mirror my phone to the car screen. I wanted to show waze being mirrored. Unfortunately, I did not have a 2nd camera with me, but this is me taking a picture of the car screen with my phone mirrored to the car screen.

@jeffpuxx great update and glad the install and everything went well. I'd be all over this, if I could find a local video input like this one: VIDEO INPUT AUDI MMI 2G HIGH NAVISERVICE VNSmedia

If anyone here knows of one available here in the US, please share.
