Default Trunk latch won't lock!!!

My 2005 A6's trunk latch won't lock especially these days where the temp. is below zero!!!
Is this a common problem? or should I get the mechanism changed?

Default I may have just found something even better than WD40.

I've been having trunk latch issues on my B7 A4 for a few months now.

It's alway worse when it's cold outside.

I was in Lowes this morning and grabbed a can of WD40 (just for this purpose)but then I saw something else right on the same shelf.

A spray can of: "Dupont Teflon White Lithium Grease".

I've always seen white lithium grease in tubes it's usually hard to actually lube something like a trunk latch without getting it everywhere and never really getting the grease where you need it but this can is exactly like WD40.

It sprays on wet through the detatchable tube and then rapidly dries to the consistancy of regular lithium grease.

When I got home from Lowes, my trunk wouldn't latch... again.

I sprayed the interior mechanism down with the WLG on both ends and it worked like a charm.

It worked like it was brand new. No mess. No muss. No fuss.

Will this last? I doubt it but it should last far longer than a squirt of WD40.

$5 well spent.

Default WD40 is not a lubricant. A temporary "solution" at best (haha)

And it's not a penetrating oil either. But it does have a really good marketing strategy.

It's a solvent, right? (Basically stripping whatever lubricants were there to begin with.)

Default Re: Trunk latch won't lock!!!

Yes, it is a common problem. I just had this problem. The thing is that because if trunk is not closed, the alarm doesn't turn on when locking the car. You can only lock the car, without the alarm turned on. While the problem would dissapear at higher temperatures this means you shouldn't open the trunk at low temperatures. Anyway, I had to change the mechanish, it cost me 50€ in Europe + 25€ half an hour of work. At the service they told me that mechanisms for cars made in 2005 had etka code 4F5827505D, then Audi discovered the problem and they changed the mechanism so now it has the letter E or F in the code. The new one shouldn't have this problem anymore they said.
