2012 A7 Prestige
New to the forums here, my A7 shredded the accessory belt. While looking at it I noticed the crank pulley assembly has lateral movement? the pulleys slide back and forth...I am not sure if it is a stock pulley (bought car used) but from my past experience pulleys are not supposed to have this much movement. Any thoughts here are greatly appreciated.
I have searched the forums for pulley failures but could not find anything talking about this.

A loose pulley will definitely put unwanted side-ward pressure on a belt, resulting shredding and eventual braking of it.
The pulley, OEM or not, should be tight on the shaft. Tightening the pulley and a new belt should solve the issue, provided the shaft is not seized up.

Thanks for the reply, the pulley looks like the “grooved” part of the pulley is a ring around the pulley and that’s the only part that moves back and forth? Like the balancer has a “ring” around it if that makes sense. I thought the pulley seperated
