2000 Audi A8 Quattro-Engine Shuts down
Hello, I have an 2000 Audi A8 and for 2 weeks now the engine shuts down at random after a short distance. Before this started happening I recently had a shop replace the engine with a similar engine from A6 model. At first the car ran fine and then this shutting down started. I took it back to the shop that installed the engine and their diagnosis was that it needed a transmission sensor another mechanic suggested a coil pack was needed, to some degree I think its the fuel pump but I am skeptical of this due the fact the engine starts after sitting for awhile. It seems to start fine when the engine cools down. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.
Thanks.

2nd, you need to read the codes...VagCom or at least a code scanner.
If it is a problem with the engine speed sensor ("crank position sensor"), which is attached to the bell housing of the trans, anything but a clean continuous signal will disable the fuel pump relay and shut down the motor.
Just one possibility, but unknown until, as with all modern cars, you read the codes.
