Answer from Prestone on extended-life antifreeze
A couple of weeks ago, I pondered whether Prestone's silicate-free extended life product would be a replacement for Pentosin. Here's what Prestone had to say about that:
Hello James:
Thank you for your inquiry and your interest in our products. In answer to your question, "Is your new Prestone)
Extended Life 5/150 Antifreeze/Coolant an approved replacement for Pentosin for Audis?" We appreciate the opportunity
you have given us to answer this question for you.
Prestone GM/Dex-cool Approved Extended Life Antifreeze Coolant is approved under GM 6277M Specification and
compatible with Audi Coolant Antifreeze (Part # ZVW 237 G12) based on ASTM D 1384 and D4340 testing. We recommend a full
changeover entailing draining, flushing out old coolant and installing Prestone Extended Life antifreeze exclusively.
Doing so will ensure peek performance and the longest life. We hope this has been helpful. If you need additional
information please let us know.
Prestone,
FYI

If I was you I wouldn't buy anything made by Prestone, they are a very poorly run company.
With very very stupid people running it. I had the "thrill" of seeing this first hand. I wouldn't trust a thing they make in my car.

When it first came out GM and Prestone were arguing about who was at fault over clogged radiators.
It's pretty easy to walk into an Audi or VW place and get red antifreeze. Most VW dealers seem happy to sell Audi parts for a slight markup if you have the number.
If the part number is good for both the dealers don't seem to care. I usually just ask for "red antifreeze", "dash light bulbs in orange sockets", etc.

"Doing so will ensure peek performance...."...?????
...I guess they want to to take a quick glance at performance, rather than ensure that the antifreeze attain peak performance.......
