Default Audi A8/S8 Rear Sun Shade Clips

The new S8 has broken clips on the sun shade (otherwise the interior is like butahh)
I couldn't find anything but these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A8-S8-Rear-Sun-Shade-Clips-/331058425002?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
they say 2004 and don't show a side view so instead of buying $50 plastic piece that don't fit.

I looked around my garage and luckily I had just spackled a wall repair over the weekend or I would probably not have thought of it but as it turns out cutting the handle off a 2" black plastic taping knife and cutting it down the middle worked great.

mostly because the perpendicular ridge I-beam design on the handle is a near perfect match.

Tools:

Hobby Vice
soldering iron
drill
200 grit sand paper
file

I wore a respirator when melting plastic

Does anyone have a simple solution for replacing the rivets.
you have to destroy them to get the clips off the arms?

I don't think a small pop rivet is a good idea.

Hey, if it works, it works! :-) Better than spending $50.00 on plastic pieces that may not work.

Good job!

I'm getting up the nerve to do some plastic soldering on my bumper cover so this was a practice run too.

1/8" width 1/4" length pop rivet worked fine.

Read other place that people removed sun shade to repair this.

Not necessary! I used a telescoping mirror and worked from the back seat.

TIP: Screw the end cap on before you rivet in the clips.
This will allow you to flip the shade over to see what you are doing.

I made the shade hooks out of curtain track:

Just don't forget to lubricate after the installation, use vaseline or grease. I hope this will help.

Hi everyone, Im trying to do this repair on my 04 a8 and wanted to remove broken clips to take a measurement, but got stuck right after removing those 2 small screws... How did you remove metal rail guide fro plastic cover? It would be bad to break plastic cover while trying to to pull clips out...
Any suggestion is appreciated.
