manual trans shift rpm

When I had a manual, last one in 2002 it was a 1994 Mazda 626, I used my hearing (engine noise) to indicate when I should shift. But if you're looking for a RPM range, between 3,000 and 4,000 is a good range.
Good luck.

If you ever had a car with a shift light, it usually indicates you should shift at a super super low for max MPG, like as soon as you can get the next gear w/o lugging. Fox max acceleration you'll want to look at the plots and/or get advice from the correct forum. It's usually pretty close to max.
In my 968 6-speed I skip shift a lot when just pootling around. Also as the 968 1st gear is pretty low when leaving the neighborhood where I have to make a few 90 degree corners and often stop I am usually torn between going really extra slow, revving higher than I like, or upshifting only to go 200 feet and then stopping for an intersection. When driving briskly I shift at 4500 or 5000 or whatever strikes my fancy, if for some reason I am trying for max acceleration I shift at 6250 or so.
I must say I like the A4 3.0 6MT, it is a fun car to drive and the engine and transmission ratios seemed well-matched, at least in the Q version which is the only one I have driven.
