My cruise control is intermittent and it's killing me.
I just took a road trip and the cruise control worked about 20% of the time. Is this a common problem and is there an easy fix?
I saw 5 broken down cars, fully 40% of them (2 for those math deficient) were Chris Bangled 745s. You people with the new A8 can sleep a little better now.

Is it not engaging....
or is the Resume function not working? I have the latter problem on my '98. When ever it starts doing this, I spray the Cruise button with electronic cleaner. This usually cures the issue for several month. Beats paying $270.00 for a new switch.

Whenever I've had CC problems, it's been solved by replacing a vacuum hose that is part of the system. They apparently go bad all the time.

Should also have a switch at the brake pedal. If you find out the colors
of the wires, make sure the brake switch contacts have continuity when pedal IS NOT pressed. Ck vacuum source and linkage under hood.

My CC would not reliably resume. Had to press resume several time to get it to work. Audi replaced everything under the hood (hoses, actuators, etc.). When they finally replaced the switch stalk, the problem went away.
