Default Replacing windshield - do I need new molding too? Can it be saved?

I've been quoted $365 for a new windshield from the Glass Doctors....using an OEM replacement this is reasonable I think. But they say that the molding may be destroyed during the removal process, and new molding is $228. Should I go ahead and get new molding too, or wait and see if it can be carefully removed and re-used.

Default The molding on my A8 lasted through 3 windshields- I'd wait to see how it looks.....

and replace it later if it gets buggered up.

I had the windshield replaced at ~$500 at the dealer, so I'm assuming the modling was salvaged.

Default Re: Replacing windshield

I lean towards replacing it. The Little Woman had to have a windshield replaced on her car a few months ago and I watched whilst it was done; that molding undergoes a lot of tugging and prying. Sure enough, she had leaks at the top of the windshield, requiring two additional visits. Most likely attributable to workmanship, but still, just to be on the safe side. ...

Default When I purchased my first A8 it needed the windshield .....

I went to about ten places and heard from $350 - $580.

Then on my last place to check the guy had a used one for $80 and he used the original molding.

The glass had already been replaced according to the installer.

The Way I see it ..... It's a used car so what will it hurt if you can get a good glass.

NO LEAKS!

No....unfortunately my insurance "comp" is under the collision umbrella with a healthy deductable. So I'm paying for this one myself. I am going to see if they can seperate glass from the rest of the comp & collision coverage.
