Default 19" Sport package wheel width and snows

I have a 2006 with the sport package (19" 5 spoke wheels), and cannot seem to find the wheel width. I found a set of 235/45/19 snow tires for a good deal and want to know if they will fit. The Dunlop site says they will fit a 9" width.

I know the current 255/40/19 don't offer a ton of protection to the edge of the wheels (ask me how I know!), so 235 will be worse, but that is ok.

Not sure if they will fit. I'm not a fan of stretching tires. Your best option is to get a set of 17" wheels and snow tires. From a tire shop wheels are about $100 a piece. Craigslist will probably have some stock wheels as well.

Factory wheels are usually 19x8.5. As far as I remember there is only one 19x9. 235/45x19 will fit both sizes but they will not give much rim protection as you suspected. Better choice for those wheels is 255/45x19. A bit bigger diameter and more rim protection.

P.S. 17's would be even better.

I like to use Tirerack and Discount tire for my research on what I should run. I would down size your wheel like stated above and go 17's. Find a nice used pair on CL and go get some new tires.

My local Discount Tire store quoted me $1200 out the door for some nice 17" good quality wheels and studded snow tires. $300 of that was warranty on the wheels and tires. I typically skip the warranty as I've found over the years I almost never need it and it's just cheaper to cough up the money if I do need to replace a wheel or tire.

I didn't buy them as I plan on getting a set of Audi wheels off craigslist. I'm looking for a set of "fat fives" like the ones on the D2 below.

If you do end up buying 17's, use caution when ordering from Tire Warehouse. I bought some new wheels/winter tires from them, but had a TON of trouble with my order before it even shipped.
