Bluetooth phone module retrofit
#41
I followed this set of instructions to the letter, and on my old connector I have 4 remaining wires.
Pin 6 - thick black wire
Pin 7 - lime green wire
Pin 28 - grey wire
Pin 36 - blue and red (live)
When I put the ignition key in the MMI display does not come up.
Without doing any VAGCOM coding should the MMI continue to work and just the tel module not work?
or are one or more of these wires required.

I've just read silkworm's previous post and It seems you should have three wires 'left over' - 6 [he doesn't mention], 7 [data +] and 28 [data -].
Maybe Pin 36 shouldn't be 'left over' and needs to go to 1?
Julian
PS 1) Have you got a suitable MMI level to recognise the BT unit? Early versions won't recognise it ...
2) VCDS will probably be needed to code it properly but that shouldn't stop the MMI working.

hmm, so I need to splits 35 and 36 together then, they wont both fit into pin 1, but both are from what I can make out identical.
Still no update on MMI, not had time, and wont have time for the coming week+ either, getting bloody injectors done, as thats needed.

By the way 'spottedhaggis', for readers of this thread, it's probably worth explaining which BT unit you're trying to wire up.
There were two different BT phone units in Europe whereas in North America [where this board is based] there was only one. It's possible there's a wiring difference between the EU units ...
Julian
PS It's not clear what the state of your MMI is; if it's still 'down' it's probably worth bypassing the BT unit with an optical bypass loop so that you can prove it's the BT unit bringing the loop down.
I think I'd also suggest getting the MMI up-to-date first before trying to add a BT unit; I've no idea what the MMI does if it 'finds' an unknown device on the loop!

A Word of Caution For Those Considering Aliexpress
I have ordered two of the TPMS retrofit kits from a vendor (Aidu Auto Technology CO., LTD) on Aliexpress. The first kit works quite well. The second kit has never worked and it appears the antenna is bad. I tried to contact that vendor (Aidu Auto Technology CO., LTD) several times and I am NOT having any success. THEY HAVE GONE INTO COMMUNICATIONS SILENCE!!! As such I can NOT recommend that anyone buy anything from them at this time. If for some reason they should eventually respond I will update this forum.
