I drove a SWB D4 and, other than noticing a bit more power and falling in love with the way the new massage system works, I did not find much of a difference. In fact one of the people with me thought my LWB D3 had a better ride.

The D4 has electronic options you won't be able to get on an 09-10, but are they important enough to you to pay all the extra money? And there are elements of the D4 interior that I dislike in coparrison to a D3.

Maybe I am a minority opinion, but when I completed the test drive and got back into my old 04 I did not feel much disappointment.

I agree. I was at a dealer today picking up my '04. Walked through the showroom and spotted a black '11 A8L. I did not even go up to it to look at it. I went to the parts dept. first to pick up a couple things and while waiting I told my 14 y.o. daughter to take a look at the D4. She has yet to see one while I did check one out at the auto show last winter. She came back and said she didn't like it as much as the one I have.

I didn't bother looking as I won't be buying one new. That's for sure. Current plans are for a pre-owned D5 or D6 in 2022 or 2023.

If you don't mind having an older model I'd say it's more bang for the bucks. I imagine there should be a pretty good rebate on those last MY cars. I think also you can get the some nice exterior stuff like S8 trunk lid and others on those last years.

Sure you get a few new nice options and upgraded design in the D4 so if that's your thing and you have the money why not. Performancewise it's mainly an academic thing. Not like you'll notice a huge difference from a few tenths of a sec better acceleration. The exterior is not VERY different either and I personally do not really like the A4 type tails and the new curved LED front lights but again that's only my opinion.

If you're **** about options and performance and you're not planning on doing anything else for the balance money I guess you could also get an almost new and loaded S8 for the same money, no?

Don't know though if there are any engine options you'll get in the US with the D4 that you couldn't get on the D3, like the 4.2TDI for example.
And a new car's always a new car. Pretty nice knowing that you're the first owner and all that

Of course it is subjective but I believe the D3 is one of the most aesthetic car lines ever made. The D4 is certainly nice but the new styling could be mistaken for a Lexus at a distance. I am not really interested in the upgraded electronics - more distraction from the road.

Agreed - more "bang for the buck..." There are some great deals out there - get an A8L W12!

I love the 05 and 04 prefacelift models. I also like the look of the newer D3's as well. I would never pay that much for a FIRST model year new d4. Never. + the rear end is ugly x2 =)
