Default D3 S8 wheel issues

Hi guys I bought a 2007 S8 and it came with aftermarket wheels. After changing the front and rear brakes the front rim would not fit due to the caliper hitting apparently they did not take into consideration when they custom-made the wheel. I had to get spacers for the front I think they are either 15 or 20 mm and now I'm getting a shimmy in the front. I think I'm just going to change out the wheels. I have been looking all over the place and I found some wheels that are 20 x 9 with a 35 offset. Does anyone have any pictures of how close to the fender a 35 offset will go as well as what tire size I should run. Thanks

Factory rims are 20" x 9" Offset 46. So offset 35 will put the wheel 11 mm closer to the fender and that will be OK. Actually it will look better than stock. Just be careful that those rims design does clear your calipers.

Did you change the brake pads and the wheel won't fit? Did you change the brake calipers and the wheel won't fit?

Did you by chance try to put a rear wheel on the front? (an issue with a 'donut' spare tire on both my 928 GTS and my SL55 AMG, where the rear caliper is significantly smaller - in this case, if I have a flat front tire, I have to remove the rear tire, put the donut there, and put the rear tire on the front wheel).

Perhaps the aftermarket wheels offsets were incorrect (and some people who buy aftermarket wheels have different rim diameters) - but if you ONLY changed the pads, then the wheels should fit, assuming they did not rub or scrape before you took them off for the brake job.

Puzzling!! Good luck.

Default +1 and further experience

I run factory 20 x 9 ET46, which fit the factory caliper of course--W12's and S8's share the same caliper and rotors. Then I use a 12mm spacer--not for clearance reasons but appearance. That nets to ET34, which gives it a great buttoned down look, on 275/35's. If you use 275's or 265's (the S8 size), you would end up in essentially the same place relative to the fender. I found 15mm spacers, netting ET31 worked, but were just a bit too aggressive for what I wanted in factory 275's.

Bottom line, 35mm offset on a 20x9 wheel would look good. It will get the rears out a bit too, where I use a bit more spacing than up front (20mm; netting ET26).

It is difficult to say. It is concave design so they will not rub at the outside of the caliper, but they still can rub at the smallest radius of it. People selling them should know that for sure (and pay for both way shipping if they are not right).

S8 calipers are of a floating type, so they travel to the center of the car as outside pad gets thinner. So the highest chance to rub is with new pads. Previous owner put them on when his pads where already thinner than new ones.

Rccooke did not state offset of those wheels. If it is 45 or close 10 mm spacer would cure his problem. That would be simpler and cheaper than new wheels. Of course if he likes those wheels.

That is exactly what took place. They must of taken the measurements for the wheel when the pads were just about finished cause as soon as I got the car had to change pads out now the front wheel does not fit. I am going to be keeping this set of wheels they are custom three-piece wheels I just do not like the spacer in the front because I'm getting a slight shimmy so I was going to get a set of regular wheels instead of staggered. Is it normal when using spacers to get a shimmy.

Default Zero issues w/ mine and spacers...

I always run OE wheels. I would put a lot more likelihood of the issue being w/ any of an aftermarket wheel, a bent wheel (regardless of who made it), a bad tire, a balance issue or suspension wear, rather than on spacers themselves.

Are those spacers hubcentric?
