Do others find it difficult to make a smooth takeoff from a stop in the A8? I have driven a lot of vehicles over the years, including manual transmissions, so I'm familiar with the technique. ;-) I just have a difficult time getting my 04 A8L to start off smoothly. It's similar in a way to my wife's LR3 before a software update. The LR3 was a problem if you let off the throttle when approaching a stop and then get on it again - big "lurch". The A8 is just a problem for me upon initial launch from a stop. Is there a software update for the transmission that might help?

I find that mine is the same way, sortof an on/off switch. It seems to be much smoother in sport mode.

but yes, that's how Audi/Bosch tune them. It is in the electronic throttle set up; it's been that way from the get go w/ the 4.2 and electronic throttle. Same oln my C5/A6 4.2.

If you have a lurch + rough shifting, then yes there is a software update and fluid change if you are under warranty still perhaps. Covered in a TSB. Search "transmission" and "hoot" or "hooting" and I think you will find references to it.
