Default How warm should the heated steering wheel be?

This is a 2008 A8L w/ 136k. Was going thru the owners manual the other day, looked at the original window sticker and saw the heated steering wheel was an option. I found the button on the steering wheel (never would have known it was there) and turned it on but was very disappointed in what I felt. I think I felt some warmth but it was so subtle it might have been wishful thinking. Nowhere near what I felt with the dealer loaner I had a month ago or so (cat recall). It's a nice to have so I'm not too worried about it. Is it something that can degrade over 11 years, or maybe something simple as a fuse? I did just buy the VCDS but haven't had a chance to scan yet. I'm guessing VCDS might give me a clue?

That mod is for the D4 A8. Does it work on the D3 also?

The steering wheel gets pretty warm and it does it pretty fast. There is no doubt when it's on. Both my steering wheel and seat are warm long before the engine heats up, especially in this cold weather. Maybe the inside of the car was too warm? I think the steering wheel shuts off when it is warm in the cockpit. Although I have accidentally turned it on in warmer weather and I ended up with sweaty palms.

Try again when the cockpit is cold.

It was 3 degrees when I left my house this morning so definitely not working as you would expect. I just received VCDS this week so I'll see if I can increase the heat this weekend.

Having found the D4 mod, I never tried it on my D3. D3 ran pretty warm to me so I never really had the need. If you don't clearly feel it, might be something wrong with the wheel, switch or electrics. It was obvious to me when I turned it on in less than a minute.

Default Switch location

Can anyone detail the location of the switch? Pretty sure the 05 did not have a switch, but I'd like to know where to look. My window sticker says I have heated wheel and my manual says it only works a certain cabin temps but it's so subtle it certainly could be that I have it switched off and dont know it.

No switch on an 05. Steering wheel heat turns on with the seat heater. On later models the switch is on the back of the left lower spoke.

I see the option, but it's grayed out and can't be changed. Unless I'm doing something wrong I would say no, this is not applicable on D3s. BUMMER.
