Great information guys, and good job dispelling the myths around the strut assemblies. Very interesting to see that the shock can be easily separated from the bag (spring).

looking forward to your DIY write up/vid Louis!

I just can't believe with all the failures like this and none of the people question what's rebuilt strut? What's new and what's not when they paid 500 or more for these struts. I like my shocks, just the bag leaks, glad Ben tried it, now it's my turn.
Mine is sport version, let's see if it works
Cheers,
Louis

You just didn't pay attention before you got a problem. It was discussed and linked to the remanufacturing sites. They where replacing everything but the shock absorber. I also remember a guy disassembled a strut and tried to fix it by replacing the airbag. He newer came back with results (or I missed it). Offer to buy air spring part of the strut is brand new and obvious way to go if the quality is any good. Replacing is a piece of cake for any DIY'er.

Default The Strut Air Bag came... Some questions for Ben

The strut air bag came pretty quickly, but I can't do it this weekend. There are a few questions for Ben please:
1. How did you remove the big bolt or nut on top of the strut housing? Crescent wrench?
2. How did you remove the big strut top wire connector (it doesn't look like it would go through the air bag hole).
I measured the length of the whole thing is 17.75".

Thanks,

Louis

Just as I thought, everything is the air bag. I rather to use my own shock. $200 for the air bag, the question is how long it will last?

Louis

Default Real time Help needed to remove the strut please

I couldn't remove the strut, it doesn't look like the lower arm goes low enough for me to slide the strut out. Is there any trick or I'm missing something?

Thanks,

Louis

Yep. Bar fights you if twisted on one side only by nature of its very function. Alternate is unbolt the bar at the U shape bar link (either end) before jacking up the side to be worked on.
