Mileage - nice surprise

I had a nice trip to Las Vegas a few weekends back and just now have a chance to write about it. The car, of course, did well through the desert heat (about 112 on the way back through Baker, CA according to the "World's Tallest Thermometer" at Bun Boy's place. That's 115 in Audigrees) and mountain passes each way. The surprise was that we were back in Los Angeles county before I realized I'd not gotten gas since filling up in North Hollywood. A check of the trip odometer indicated I'd driven 498 miles on that tank of gas. That's high speed desert and foothill roads, and a ~4000 foot pass each way along with a bit of puttering around in 'Vegas itself - all with the AC blasting away to keep up with the gain in my Black/Black Bete Noir. When I pulled into the Shell (it's all I could find in Cucamonga at the time) station I was right at 500 miles on the tank, and took on 22 gallons total. 22.7mpg was a nice surprise for those conditions.
