MMI update with Nav Disk 4
I've read on some post that the MMI update should be done with NAV disk 5 or later but not with version 4. Is this correct. I would like to update to 4460 with NAV disk 4.
I'm not sure I'm going to upgrade the nav since I thinks it's cumbersome to use vs Google Maps/NAV on my phone. I trying to see if there are any android / MMI integration out there anywhere. I also have my entire music collection on my phone so that would be a plus.

It can be done with nav v4 as I had the dealer do mine with this version. For some reason it is just recommended to have a newer one after. And on MMI 2g (what's in our cara) there is absolutely no integration with the phone other than Bluetooth audio and voice over. The advantage over a phones google maps is the hands free factor, bigger screen, and safety. So a no brained IMO. Plus how cheap would you look skipping out on using your multi $$$$ nav system and instead using your phone. I use my phones nav for quick location checks or locations where I don't need turn by turn. Gotta remember this same nav system was used from 2003-2010ish so it's not that outdated.

Page 12, item #1, of the TSB (91 08 148 2018510/3 December 2, 2008) for the 4460 update states:
1. If the vehicle is MY 2005, it may still
have a Version 4 Navigation DVD
installed. Replace Version 4 Navigation
DVDs with a Version 5 Navigation DVD
prior to the MMI component Update.
I've read that there is software needed from the Nav disc before anything from any MMI discs. I guess there must be prep files on the Nav disc that are not on the MMI discs?
I had already replaced my Nav DVD, several months prior to doing the MMI update, for exactly the same reasons that Brozee points out. I have no intention of replacing it every year, but the disc I had was original and way out of date. I'm glad I replaced it. I like using the car's nav, versus the phone, most times.
Carry on...

+1 Need Nav v 5 or later
It's been that way for the last couple of MMI revs. From some others' experience you may need a further patch too covered by another TSB, but can just run the update first and see if it takes/works.
Can buy used Nav disks from prior revs on e bay if you want to pay less. Skip v7 though.

Sorry, I did meant 46.10.
Anyway, I like using my phone's turn by turn because it's so much easier to input a place. Hell, I can just name a restaurant and it will give me turn by turn directions. It might be that I'm just not use to using the MMI NAV but the input of an address is so cumbersome, it kinda puts me off. Then there is the updates you really need to get almost every other year here in ATL since there is still a lot of new construction going on. The perfect scenario would be to integrate my phone but it looks like an impossibility right now. And with the low numbers of 2G MMIs, there is never going to be any integration. So I guess I will probably be in the market for the latest NAV disk.
