OnStar - 2004 Owners with OnStar
Is there anyone out there with OnStar on a 2004 or older Audi that isn't upset about the fact that the systems installed in our cars will become obsolete in 2008? I would like to subscribe to the service if it were going to be available to me beyond a 1 year period. I like the concept of using OnStar to receive handsfree calls, and the integration of the system with the car. I am upset that this will become a useless feature... Audi might point the finger at OnStar for moving to an all digital service, but I have read that it was known in 2004 when these cars were being built that this was a dying technology (anolog vs Digital service). I think Audi should be doing something for us. Your thoughts?

I just got the letter today stating the system is obsolete as of 2008. I am going to call Audi and on star and find out if only the onstar service is affected or if the hands free calling is affected also. I use the phone a lot, but the onstar service only a little. If it is infact all dying as of 1 Jan 2008 I'm hoping Audi will offer something to make the phone digital. 2004 A8L serial 8170, 62,000 trouble free miles (except the auto trunk closer, but that is now fixed)

I got the OnStar Letter. But I knew It was coming,as I am only too familiar with the analog vs digital shift in wireless. I am also fairly certain that OnStar AND Audi knew about this when our 2004's were built. OnStar has no choice, they are a client of the Cellular system.

My 2004 has OnStar but never used it. If you have Motorola V60 phone cradle (B type) you can buy a blue tooth module which will allow you to use the hands free phone option with most bluetooth phones.( motorola razor or ?) Phone automnatically recongizes my phone and you program in MMI phone info. Can't access phone memory put can store phjone numbers in MMI , HOME, WiFE, etc or use dial feature to dial phone.

The fine print in the original A8 sales brochure indicated that this was coming. I can only assume that GM didn't want to sell their best (i.e. digital) technology to the competition. We're all supposed to go buy Cadillacs now.
My hope is that Audi will offer some warranty supported way of upgrading to bluetooth. The V60 adapter sounds pretty good if Audi can promise it will work with the MMI system. BMW and MB have their versions out--what's taking Audi so long? It can't be that hard, especially if the BMW and MB adapters work in the Audi anyway.
Better support = better resale values = more sales for Audi.
