Do any of you know of such a car for sale?? We want the SWB model, not the L model. Very rare, but attractive color, at least for us! Currently have an '07 A8 in this color.

Please supply info regarding location, contact name, telephone or email, etc. Really appreciate any help.

Unusual spec band perhaps, with I guess color overriding all? Realize that the 2012 means the 4.2 still--similar to later D3 (2007 on), but then forks in later years to either 3.0T or 4.0T. You also have the Audi Connect, 360 camera and other tweaks circa 2013 as I recall. The facelift isn't until 2015. Net, my mental grouping with this combo of rolling changes (for US spec and model years) tends to be 2011-2012, 2013-2014, and 2015-2017. SWB exits again in later years. If color overrides, so be it, but if interested you can explore the set up changes as the years marched on and throw all that into the price-value trade off equation.

Thanks MP4.2+6.0, I'm aware of the changes. Color is quite important, but maintenance records, number owners, mileage, and CONDITION are also a major factor in the selection process. Much of the problem is that this is a very rare color for Audi A8's. See quite a few A8's on the road, but hardly ever see one in this color. Currently there are 3 for sale in all the the US that I've found. One SWB and 2 L's. Any comments on the 3.0 and 4.0 T engines vs the 4.2 - of which I've owned two?

Short version on motors is probably that 3.0T is approximately 4.2. The supercharger is instant torque so you don't have any lag debates. Maybe somewhat better MPG's than 4.2, but depends on driving style too. 4.2 was itself at ultimate stages of refinement so can't knock that. I drove a D4 4.2 for about a week as a loaner and it was nice, but honestly at the time isn't compelling against D3 W12--just too much torque differrence. What is maybe not so obvious on D4 4.2 vs. D3 4.2 are the two extra gears in the tranny. I think the D3 4.2 tranny was actually a bit smoother than the D4 4.2 I drove, but then my comparison was a D3 W12 with a lot of instant torque and flexibility. But the two extra gears improve both off the line and maybe a bit the MPG's. Then in turn 4.0T is going to have lotsa torque. Very little lag--in S8 anyway--and relative to 4.2 probably not really more time than it takes for tranny to shift down or the kludgy intake manifold flaps to change position. 4.0T in A8 is already plenty of power for most BTW relative to D4 S8. Honestly more than I need or can use 95-99% of time. Basically 4.0T A8 is already at or above real world power of D3 S8 or W12.

Find threads on turbo reliability questions, particularly the earliest ones (2013). I posted several times in recent months; seems to be a watch area. There are some in 4.2 too if you dig around like the wiring harness leakage issue that can get expensive and a hassle if post warranty. As they age, some D3-esque common watch areas like sway bar links, upper control arm bushings, and later on air ride. So far not very many on air ride, but as they get out 10 years and 120K like many D3s are now, there probably will be.

BTW, as I think of it, be sure you know the pre facelift D4 trunk. That is probably the biggest let down over D3. Engineer was reassigned to designing Siberian tractors after that. It is what it is, but takes until facelift to feel like trunk is in a somewhat similar league.

BINGO - thank you so much for the third of the four links you posted above. That website did not even have a picture of the car, but when I contacted the company selling the '13 A8 SWB car, it was EXACTLY what we wanted. Savanna Beige with Velvet Beige interior. One owner, actual mileage of 21,276. It had been "over-serviced" as well. Service by the selling Audi dealer at 1.5K, 5K, 12K (15K mile), 19K (15K mile), and 21K (35K mile). Enough additional cost options to suit us. After getting about 25 custom pictures of what I requested sent to me, along with a copy of the original window sticker, and a spotless CarFax - I bought the car and will be picking it up from the dealer on Monday 6/18/18 to drive home.
