Confused there... The 2012 4.2 runs about 1/2 the revs of the D3 4.2 mostly due to the transmission.
Curious that the 4.0 is half again that, or ?

I find that very very difficult to believe, but haven't driven and won't own the 3.0 so.....

MMI with Audi Connect was a delayed 2012 introduction. In other words you can still find early 2012's that lack the sim card slot. I am not sure what production week they cut over but it happened about 1/3 of the way into model years production run.

I'd agree with the 4.2NA motor being closer to the 3.0SC motor. I think the 3.0 is a few tenth's slower in the qmile and 0-60 but for the most part they are in parity with each other. One chip from APR or GIAC could tilt things in favor of the 3.0SC.

Interesting. Thanks, saved me some research time today.

Still on the fence but will likely get the W12 next time as long as cylinder deactivation can be disabled.
If you're going to buy the biggest and the best, go all the way.

As an aside I'd buy an S8 if you could get a LWB and remove all that crazy carbon fiber, but then you may as well get Audi Design selections.

I didn't even realize this but the A8 4.2 was a NWB while the 3.0 was an LWB. That's gotta be a good 75 to 100 lbs of weight, so you shave 1 tenth off the 3.0's qmile time. Either way the difference between the two is very small factor in difference in tires etc and the results get even closer.

I would say look for a 4.0T LWB and if you really want S8 performance APR can easily get you there. Here are the 4.0T LWB results. Those results are noticeable compared to the 4.2/3.0 setups.

Excellent info, thanks again.
My money is always on horsepower, 0-60, and the 'feel' if you will.

I am not one to 'mod' or chip things, but completely trust APR.

Bah! Now I may have to look at the 2015's... see what you've done here...

Sorry! Considering picking up a S8 next year when my lease is up on my S4. If the depreciation keeps up, finding one in the high 60's might be possible by this point next year. (already seeing them creeping into the 80's) Not really sure yet, I am struggling with what to get as my next car.

Short list right now, is:
(New)
RS5 Coupe custom order in Nogaro Blue, or maybe Rivera Blue

(Used)
997.2 Turbo
Bentley CGT
D4 S8
