3 audio beeps - brake warning light
Hello, yesterday I took a look at a 1995 A6 quattro to buy. The car has a few faults. When you turn the ignition on (or just before) you get 3 beeps. The seller came clean and he said that his mechanic had removed the light which came on (brake warning light with exclaimation mark). The 3 beeps don't repeat when driving, just at start.
I now have a C4 100 with autocheck system and have had loads of false alarms from this system through faulty connections to the instrument cluster. So I'm inclined to think that this maybe is a false alarm with wiring as the fluid level is correct, the car is driven daily and the car brakes 100% with ABS kicking in when overbraking. Recently all the brake discs have been replaced but the beeps remain (was beeping before).
What do you guys think? Worth taking the risk if the price is right?

Re: 3 audio beeps - brake warning light
three beeps is a priority 1 warning so I don't think its the brakes since that falls under the priority 2 warnings..
manual lists coolant and oil as priority 1
and all others as priority 2 with only a single beep

Re: 3 audio beeps - brake warning light
I have an auto check on my current 92 C4 and yes it beeps twice for worn brake linings (yellow without exclaimation mark in the center, but does beep 3 times for brake pressure failure (red with exclaimation mark).
I'm pretty sure that the non auto check cars share the same light and warning display for worn linings and low pressure. Since the car has new linings (and discs) and the car brakes extremely well I reckon it could be the connections between the loom and brake shoes as I have had the same trouble with my 92 auto check. Maybe worth a bid then...
